| Description | A '60's comedian, in his routine said, "I started as a child." It just so happens so did I! Well of course we all did but my interest in photography did start when I was a child! When I was 7 or 8 my parents bought me a generic 127 format camera (remember 127 film? Remember film?) Boy, I took it everywhere and took photos of everything! I was pretty good - at least I thought so. In the mid 60's I discovered car racing. Shortly after buying a 1966 Mustang (new and I still have it!) I headed down to Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California to see real race cars up close in the old USRRC event. As many of you reading this will agree, one instant at the track and WHAM you are hooked for life! The sights, sounds and smells are very addictive. I had borrowed my Dad's Kodak Signet 35mm rangefinder camera that weekend and took my first photos of race cars. I think I actually shot a whole roll of film! Thanks to a good friend, Jim Phillipson, I managed to "graduate" to a Mamiya/Sekor 35mm SLR camera and got some lenses that allowed me to "get closer" to the cars. Putting two passions together, car racing and photography, seemed like the natural thing to do. For the past 42+ years (has it really been that long?) I have been photographing race cars of various pedigrees - including SCCA Club Racing, IMSA, Trans-AM, NASCAR, CART, Can-AM, Vintage and various other series. My mentor, Bob Dunsmore, always used to say that I was "studying at the feet of the master" and referred to me as grasshopper hence the name "grasshopper photography." I learned much of what I know from Bob and he helped me deepen my passion for both photography and motor sports. I put that passion into each photograph I take.
